Battle Ground Remy / Sports Complex Petition...
Dear Project Contacts:
I am very concerned about your current plans to exclude an off leash area from the Battle Ground Remy / Sports Complex Park Plan. Our community parks program needs to offer an area where dogs and their owners can play and exercise together. Throughout the United States, communities have become aware of the importance of having designated off leash areas included in their park systems. Unfortunately, Clark County has been one of the last communities to provide this for their human and canine citizens.
I strongly encourage you to include a 6 to 10 acre off leash area into the Battle Ground Remy / Sports Complex Park Plan. Please consider that Battle Ground has nearly quadrupled in size over the past 15 years and yet we have no off leash areas within a 30 minute driving radius from down town... optional add'l personal comments...
UPDATE: 70 people signed this petition and 40 people voted to build a dog park in this area, as top priority. See the City of Battle Ground reply to our petition below..
Greetings,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Battle Ground Sports Complex and plans for an off leash dog park in our community.
Currently there are not plans for an off-leash dog area within the sports complex. The ball fields planned for the site will take up all the developable land on the property. Other acreage is impacted by wetlands; however there are walking/interpretive trails slated that would provide for an area to walk dogs on leashes. The Parks Improvement Plan does identify a need and plans for an off-leash dog area in Battle Ground. After the current projects the City has underway (Fairgrounds Park Renovation phase I and II, Battle Ground Sports Complex, and Kiwanis Park Renovation) are completed, we hope to move forward with plans for an off-leash dog area. The location could potentially be Gardner Oaks. For more information and to view the Parks Improvement Plan that was developed for the City of Battle Ground through feedback from the community, visit our website at http://www.cityofbg.org/docs/parks/parks_improvement_plan.pdf.
Again, thank you for your feedback it is valuable to the City of Battle Ground . Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any further questions or concerns.
Best regards,

- 2006 - DOGPAW petitioned Battle Ground to include off-leash at Remy Property.
- 2007 - Battle Ground stated that will continue with their plans to build a sports complex and trail system on the Remy Property. Although, they proposed implementing off-leash at Garner Oaks Park and ran out of funds to construct parking at the proposed site.
- 2008 - Reminded Debbi Hanson, Parks Director, of our interest to manage Battle Ground off-leash.
- Update - AUG 2009 - Reminded them of our interest again.
