Great things are happening in DOGPAW this year. Be a part of it!

8:30am - undetermined end time.
Hello park users,
Saturday, April 26th, we will be beginning the first phase of
construction of the small dog area at Ross. Thanks to Sunbelt
rentals, we have a machine to dig the holes, however we will
need muscle to man up to the machine. Our goal is to dig all
holes and set all posts in 1 day, so that we don't leave a
hazzard in the park.
If you can volunteer at least a couple of hours on that day,
please let me know ASAP. Hopefully we will get enough people
so that all of us dont get too burned out - because we will
need to practice for the other off leash areas that are going
to be constructed in Clark County!
thanks for your support.

Come join your DOGPAW friends at Ross Park on Saturday June 16th at 8:30AM for our Summer Spruce-Up Party.
We NEED:
- shovels
- rakes
- pitchforks
- wheel barrows
- weed whackers
- mowers
- Hole Patrol
- Weed and Berry Whacking
- Wood Chip Re-Location
- Fence-Line Care
We also need some folks to inform park users at the gates about the work party and to collect donations for Pay-to-Play. We’d like to use the opportunity to sign up new DOGPAW members where we can.
We will close the park for regular use starting at 8AM. Workers will complete spruce-up chores in the southern half of the park first. The north, or top half, will be open for use on a Pay-to-Play basis.
When we are finished in the southern section we will close it - except for Pay-to-Play - and then work on the north section.
Pay-to-Play allows limited access to the park, promotes DOGPAW goals to fund raise and sign members and makes our group efforts visible to our neighbors. The event will help educate users who do not realize that tax dollars don’t make DOGPAW OLAs happen - DOGPAW people do. You may Pay-to-Play by donating to the maintenance effort with cash or labor or a donation of tools or treats (for workers). Otherwise the park is closed.
DOGPAW needs your help, time, money and tools to keep our parks
running smoothly and looking good.
Please come ready to work for a couple hours or more. If you cannot lift, carry, mow, rake or whack please come gather donations and help keep the workers happy. We’d like to spread donated wood chips as well as the joy of working together on our DOGPAW park.
Our family is donating a case of beverages and ice in addition to our time. Your efforts for ice-filled coolers or treats for workers are welcomed.

DOGPAW's stated mission: To work with dog owners and the community at large to promote awareness, acceptance and availability of off- leash areas in Clark County.
Since the city and county governments have made it clear that there is no money for off-leash areas, one of our most important jobs will be to raise money to build and maintain safe sites in our communities.
Please help by joining DOGPAW and making a donation. Visit us on the web at http://www.clarkdogpaw.org.

On Saturday January 6th the Boy scouts will once again drop off Christmas trees at ROSS. We need help to unload and pile the trees between the hours of 9 and 3.
On Saturday January 20th we will be chipping the trees and spreading the chips on both the upper and lower levels of ROSS. This day will require many workers with wheelbarrows, shovels and rakes. If anyone has a large chipper this would also be greatly appreciated.
We are grateful to our local Boy Scout group for the opportunity to have the trees and look forward to once again enjoying the fresh smell and less mud at ROSS.
Please email or call your site manager to let us know what time you will be available to work on either of the above dates.
Also, VERY IMPORTANT, for the safety of our dogs, beginning on Saturday 20th and continuing until all the chips are spread, ROSS WILL BE CLOSED to all dogs. With enough workers we hope to be closed for only one day.
To arrange your work time please contact Patricia Weinkauf at Clarkbarkpark at aol.com or call 992-1692.
There will be a $5.00 fee for all trees dropped off by individuals.

Dogpaw is still getting the word out to the large numbers of people who use Pacific of the importance of being part of the growing movement of dog owners.
Parks and Recs department has advised us that they put the bid out again for the construction project at Pacific and expect that work will begin no later than March 2007.
Dogpaw is working hard on developing other locations that could be used for off leash.
Please let me know if you would like to help out at the membership drive on Sept 16th.

DRAFT VANCOUVER-CLARK PARKS, RECREATION AND OPEN SPACE PLAN
Reflecting Your Vision. Planning for the Future.
The Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation Department is in the process of updating the Vancouver-Clark Comprehensive Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan. Initiated in fall 2005, this Comprehensive Plan establishes a road map for providing high quality, community-driven parks, trails, open space and recreation facilities throughout Vancouver and greater Clark County. The informational handout attached provides a summary of the main goals, principles, and projects envisioned in the Plan.
The Draft Comprehensive Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan is now available for public review and comment. All residents of Clark County, including those living in incorporated cities, are encouraged to review the Draft Plan and provide their ideas, comments, and suggestions. Public input is critical to determine whether the Plan accurately reflects the types of facilities, programs, and outdoor experiences that are most important to residents.
Explore & Comment Online: The Draft Plan, informational handouts and a comment form are all available on the Departments website at www.vanclarkparks-rec.org.
Visit a Community Open House. The Department has also scheduled three public open houses at locations throughout the county.

We need your help!
As you may or may not know, by the end of February and through the remaining construction phase of the park, we will be reduced to using only 4 acres in the SW corner of Pacific.
More than ever before, it is imperative that people currently enjoying this park, join Dogpaw now so that we may have a stronger voice!
Here's how you can help:
- Dogpaw will be holding a Membership drive and park cleanup on Saturday March 4, 7:00am to 4:00pm. We are looking for volunteers to help us clean up our area of Pacific Park and to help us to get the message out to other park users about the importance of joining Dogpaw by working a shift at our membership booth. Each shift is 2 hours. If you can work more than one shift, GREAT!
- When you're at the park, either park, talk with others about the importance of joining Dogpaw and making their voices hear. You will be surprised at how many people still think that both parks are operated and funded by the City, County or even BPA!
- Wear your Dogpaw hat so people will approach you and ask about Dogpaw. We will be selling hats at this membership drive or contact me at the email address below if you would like to purchase a hat. Remember, as with everything else, 100% of Dogpaw profits go to support off-leash dog parks in Clark County.
- Ask people you meet at the park if they are Dogpaw members as they may be new to the area and unaware of how our parks are funded. You can direct them to Dopaw's website www.clarkdogpaw.org or to the brochures at the Kiosks.
If you are able to help out on March 4, please respond to this email with which shift(s) or time you are available.
Thank you for supporting off leash dog park!

Join DOGPAW and Starbucks at Pacific Park with your canine companions and several hundred of their very best friends.
** Get counted: We’re taking a tally of park users to show Parks and Rec how many tax-paying residents LOVE this off-leash paradise!!! This information is critical as we work to develop future sites.
** Sign up: Become a DOGPAW member and help us promote awareness, acceptance and availability of off-leash areas in Clark County.
** Pitch in: Dozens of DOGPAW and Starbucks volunteers will be cleaning up the park. If you missed picking up your dog’s doody a time or two, and you know you did, this is your chance to make things right.
